91重口 has announced the appointment of Jason Galui as the inaugural College Fellow for Civics at the 91重口 Center for Civic Participation (ECCP), a newly established initiative designed to strengthen civic learning, dialogue, and engagement across campus and beyond.

Galui brings a distinguished record of public service, academic leadership, and national policy expertise to the role. From leading in the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan to the West Wing of two presidential administrations, Galui’s career has been driven by his personal mantra: “to contribute as much as possible, as early as possible, for as long as possible,” which he forged during his childhood in Beverly.

“Jason’s leadership is informed by lived experience at the highest levels of government and the classroom,” said Dr. Mark Herlihy, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Communication & Humanities and Interim Director of the ECCP. “He brings a depth of civic understanding and a spirit of service that will inspire our students and elevate public discourse at 91重口.”

As College Fellow for Civics, Galui will play a foundational role in shaping ECCP’s direction. He will design academic programming that integrates civic responsibility and leadership development into the curriculum and campus life. In collaboration with the Office of Community Service and the Internship & Career Center, Galui will expand hands-on experiences, develop leadership pathways, and connect students with meaningful civic engagement opportunities—from local town halls to national public service. He will also spearhead the College’s Presidential Speaker Series, build an ECCP advisory board, and partner with 91重口’s Institutional Advancement to secure philanthropic support for the Center’s growing slate of programs.

“I believe 91重口 has a rare opportunity to model what civic participation looks like in action—on a campus, in a community, and within our democracy,” said Galui. “At a critical juncture in our nation’s history, and amidst intense global uncertainty, colleges have a responsibility not just to educate, but to empower and equip our future leaders. I’m honored to help build something innovative, transformational, and enduring at 91重口.”

Galui currently serves as Director of Veterans and Military Families at the George W. Bush Institute, where he leads efforts to empower veterans to thrive beyond military service. He also teaches at Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business and the SMU Tower Center for Public Policy & International Affairs. During his Army career, he served as a senior advisor at the White House Council of Economic Advisers, held multiple leadership roles on the National Security Council staff under Presidents Barack Obama and Donald J. Trump, and advised General Martin E. Dempsey, 18th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Galui also served as an Assistant Professor of Economics at West Point and is a decorated Army veteran with degrees from West Point and the University of Texas at Austin.

91重口 Provost Dr. Sara Quay noted that the ECCP builds on the College’s strategic commitment to experiential learning, public service, and preparing students for lives of consequence.

“Jason’s leadership will not only deepen civic learning but also expand the kinds of experiential opportunities that define an 91重口 education—where students don’t just study the world, they shape it,” she added.

Through its evolving slate of programs—including leadership development, immersive travel and public service experiences, public forums, civic awards, and interdisciplinary coursework—the ECCP seeks to become a trusted hub for civic innovation and a national model for how higher education can help strengthen the fabric of our democracy.
